During the Christmas season, one of the things I love to see are the wonderful displays of Christmas lights that folks put up all over their houses and yards. Many manger scenes are depicted as well as Santa, Mrs. Clause, elves and reindeer with sled. You can usually see a decorated tree, star or angel right on top, peeking out the window of the house while in some yards the wonderful evergreens are full of twinkly lights in all sorts of colors to light up their little world. Often, there will be quite a light show as local contests bring out the decorator in so many people. After dark, when the lights are all shining brightly, it looks like a small village within a town or city. Small points of light will show up where you never expected them to be.
This all reminds me of a wonderful thing that Jesus told us:
Matthew 5:14-17, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Many Christians will tend to hide their lights under the basket thinking that others will do the witnessing or that good thing. The usual reason is because they don't really KNOW how to talk to others about the Lord. If there is an excuse, I have used it! But I learned something about that when I got closer to the Lord. Funny thing about that. He provides the Words when you need to talk to someone. What a blessing. But think about it. The responsibility is HIS, not yours. All we have to do is talk when He tells us. Now THAT I can do. I encourage you to be a 'Point of Light' this season and throughout the year. When each member of the body of Christ takes his/her place in 'lighting up' the world, the twinkling will be so grand. Hold your candle HIGH! Jesus said we need to SHINE so let's do it!!!
